Homeward Bound

So it seems as if I have acted upon my aforementioned desire to flee this lovely hall of residence. I usually don’t make decisions quickly, but this afternoon, after 4 hours on the STA Travel website, two transatlantic telephone calls and untold aggravation, I am now in possession of an insanely over-priced British Airways ticket to the USA. Yippee!

On 26 July I will fly directly to Los Angeles from London, a nice long 11-hour flight (EEK!). My sister promises to pick me up from LAX and not dump me on Super Shuttle. After visiting with sis, I will travel to my parents’ place and stay for a few weeks, then head East for the last week or so to visit a few of my dear friends. I’ll fly back to London from Philadelphia on 30 August and then leave for Paris a few days later. Whew.

All of this means that I only have a little over 6 weeks left in London! I haven’t registered this yet. It’s all so sudden. I’m sure I will begin to freak out at any moment, but I think I made the right decision. All the people I knew in this place have fled and I just don’t think it’s healthy for me to go a whole year without seeing my friends and family – you know, the people who actually care whether I live or die. So anyway, I’m excited!

  1. I can’t wait to see you!!! It feels like a hundred years since we’ve seen each other last!

  2. Again, it depends on what TIME you arrive…that will decide if you are dumped on SuperShuttle or get to ride in my stylin’ Tercel. And I can tell you now: your ginormous suitcase won’t fit in my car.

  3. I think Harvard University Admissions Office is looking for temporary help during the last week of August.

  4. William: We will soon be reunited. I know a year without my presence is too much torture to impose on any man…

SpliceGirl: I have to bring the big suitcase because I need to stock up on cheap American goods! Clothes! Shoes! Stuff from Target! Don’t worry — I’ll make it fit.

Gadfleye: You will be in London the week after next. Don’t piss me off! ;)

  5. Splice girl: As we all know, Anglofille is a very light packer and travels with very little! She an example to us all!

    NOT!

    ;)

I’m one of those friends you’ll be seeing. I’m booking a space on William’s sofa bed now. William, I’m deathly allergic to animals. How is this going to work? Shall I die seeing Anglofille?

  7. well anglofille, perhaps i will see you on the east coast! i too have paid ridiculous amounts of money to visit my friends and family in the US. email me if you’ll be in beantown… cheers from south africa.
