Via Bitch Ph.D., a call to boycott HP and their digital cameras that feature a “slimming effect,” which can make the subject in a photo appear thinner. Their site says: “With the slimming feature, anyone can appear more slender — instantly!” Yes, this is just what our culture needs — after all, not enough people have eating disorders. You know what, Hewlett-Packard? Go to hell and then some, you soulless irresponsible bastards.

….wow
They’re already on the ropes from a ton of corporate scandal, but now I really do hope that HP falls completely down the drain.

At first I thought you were joking.
Then I thought that perhaps THEY were joking.
This is just sick.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention (via Bitch PhD)! I’m certainly going to blog this also!

I thought it was a joke too. It’s too surreal to be true. The sad thing is that they’ll probably sell more cameras because of this feature. (Even though in looking at the examples on their website, the before and after photos look the same to me.)
As soon as Bitch Ph.D. posted on this, it caught fire in the blogosphere. I think if enough people start talking about this, it will at least bring HP some bad press and more importantly, shame. -
You know what’s weird is.. you can already do this anyway in photoshop. It’s not a fancy-schmancy feature, it’s just a filter that vertically smashes the picture a bit.
For example:
Instead of this:

The picture is smashed a bit and looks like this:

| |(but it’s cut off on top and bottom to fit the shape of a standard photo) and magically you’re “thinner” (although your head looks too long and you look a bit strange).
I hope they get negative press as well. This is so wrong that it actually sickens me. I wonder, will they start applying this magical “filter” on images of models, significantly increasing the “heroin chic” look? Whatever happened to the historical aesthetic of curvy women?!

That didn’t come out right above… I meant like this:

smashed to this:

Edit as you see fit
sorry! -

She’s probably running scared after hearing about your blog!
