Today as I walked home, I stumbled upon a memorial service in front of Notre Dame for Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who was murdered three days ago. The gathering appears to have been organized by Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders. I was given a white rose, which now sits in a vase on my desk, a reminder that there are still brave journalists in this world who take incredible risks to seek the truth.

October 11th, 2006 at 11:52 pmHow wonderful! Sometimes I feel as though the US has been far too desensitized in regards to world news, culture, and politics. I don’t know a single person who had ever heard of her (including myself, I must confess), and no one even knew that she had been murdered.
Sad.
