Yesterday I told someone I had to “hotten” something in the microwave. Oh dear.

November 12th, 2006 at 1:13 amHello I ve been living in London for almost 2 years now ( i’m originally from Paris ) and i just wanted to let you know that you are not alone because i don’t speak french anymore on a daily basis when i’m in a situation where i have to speak french i sometimes struggle the first five minutes to get my french right and start thinking in french

Good luck -
Of course it’s hottening - is there any other way? (I love it!)

Alpha: Now I’m really worried!!!
Gigi: I think “hotten” is a very good word, just like “gotten.” Maybe I’ll just start using it. And maybe I’ll invent a whole bunch of other fake English words too.

hell, they use hot as a verb here in the u.k. so it can’t be all wrong! (e.g. the race for labour party leader is “hotting up” - gah! that soooo sets my teeth on edge!)

Funnily enough, after I wrote this post I suddenly wondered whether “hotten” is a British word and that’s where I’d heard it. So I looked it up in my UK dictionary just to make sure! But I didn’t see it.
