The Socialist Party overwhelmingly chose her to be their candidate ahead of French national elections next April, putting her in a position to possibly become France’s first female president. Interestingly, she is unmarried but lives with the father of her four children. I know virtually nothing about French politics, but anyone with a domestic situation like Royal’s could never run for president in the US, that’s for sure. If she wins the election, it will be revolutionary in more ways than one.

I don’t know an awful lot about French politics (apart from the fact Chirac is a crook), but it certainly sounds like a positive move.

November 20th, 2006 at 4:08 pmAmericans in general, but not all of us, are hypocritical prudes. You are crucified in American politics if you have anything but a “traditional” marital arrangement. Traditional is defined as slavish devotion to a White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant ethic. Americans have no problem with alcholic, drug-abusing, draft-dodging, politicians deciding to blow innocent people to smitherenes, so long as that politician does not have an affair.
