Who I Saw Today

Photography is banned inside the Accademia, so I had to sneak photos when the guard wasn’t looking. If they really don’t want people to take photos, they need to think of a more threatening deterrent than having a 5′2″ lady screaming “No photos!” every five minutes. Ooooh, I’m shivering. I managed to get a photo of David’s backside, but it’s not a good photo. I’m not sure if I can salvage it, but his tush is so glorious I’ll keep trying…

  1. Hooray for sneaking photos! What a great shot that first one is! The lighting in there must be great, or else you were really super brave and used your flash… Either way, nice work!

  2. I’ll second Rebecca on that, it is a quality first shot! I remember seeing the David for the first time. I was sure it couldn’t be as great as everyone said. I was wrong. It is truly amazing. The detail is masterful. What makes it even more astounding was that it was fashioned from marble that wasn’t quite right for the job.

When we went to Copenhagen recently, we saw a bronze copy of the David. We were told by the guide that this was an original. I suspect that this was bull$*%&, as I have never heard of it before!!!

    Aaaahhhh, happy days of travelling!!!

  3. When do we get to see his ‘backside’? I can just imagine the scene:

“Excuse me, but does this photo make my ass look big??”

By the way, didn’t “David” get a major cleaning/restoration within the last year or so?
