A commenter to my previous post provided a link to a petition you can sign that is part of the International Campaign Against Killings and Stonings of Women in Kurdistan. The woman in the video I wrote about was a 17-year-old girl named Doa who lived in Kurdistan. [I think the part of Kurdistan she lived in is within the borders of Iraq.] You can read more about her story if you click on the link to the petition. Please sign it. I am still upset about the video I watched yesterday and I will have more to say about it tomorrow. Part of the reason I feel so upset is that I want to help women like Doa, but I feel powerless. This petition is one small thing we can all do to help. I have been getting tons of hits on my blog post about Doa and I really hope there will be a big internet/blog campaign to shed light on her story.

Sukhvinder Rai Says:
July 21st, 2007 at 9:08 pmThe government needs to severely punish those who take part in so called honour killings so that others are afraid of even considering the word honour killing. Unless the government intervenes people will continue with such barbaric behaviour.

August 16th, 2007 at 7:10 pmI feel deep pain and sadness to see this young girl salugthered for Loving the wrong boy. What’s happening in Irak is barbaric and alarming. I fear that could sprad all over the Middle East. This unstability in Irak is a threat to Peace and International Security.

Doa's friend Says:
September 21st, 2007 at 3:58 amI completely agree with Sukhvinder Rai,those that murdered Doa and those that let it happen and made no attempt to intervene – all the cowards including the “so called pathetic police” need to be punished -in public – so that others can see this is not acceptable behavior. Doa was a brave young girl whose life was cut short because of the ignorance of others. I have set up a memorial site for those that wish to light a candle and to say something in memory of Doa, Doa represents all the girls/women that have been victims of “honor killing” that is nothing but murder – please go to http://doa-aswad.memory-of.com/ – thank you – Doa’s friend…

The male of no other species of animal in history has wilfully beaten up on the female of its own species nor treated it with such disdane and disrespect. The greatest atrocity in history is Man’s inhumanity to Woman.
