Britain is slowly being submerged underwater. Thus far, London has managed to keep her head above the tide, but there’s a lot more rain still to come. Tonight the newspaper headlines — in their subtle way — claimed that the Thames may overflow. “Get ready to flee,” the headline said. Oh dear. I have nowhere to go.
Other headlines warn of looting, panic. With the British media, you can never be entirely sure what’s going on. The papers and news programs here indulge in a stunning degree of hysteria, fear-mongering and theatrics, such that I’ve never seen before. But this time things are pretty bad.
I decided to go for a walk this evening, without an umbrella. I wore a hooded sweatshirt and managed to get completely soaked, but I wanted to feel the wind and rain on my face. I’ve been in a weird, wistful mood the past few days. Today I let go of something, something I’ve been letting go of for quite a while now. But today was the end, finally. And today something else started, just the beginning, just the spark. Today I can feel the possibility of something wonderful about to begin; I can feel it on the tip of my tongue, on my fingertips, in my bones.
I needed to walk, as I do at such times. I needed to walk and I walked along the riverbanks and bridges of this wondrous city and there were moments when it all felt like a dream, as my life in London sometimes does.

And today, we are unhappily at work, what do we get? Sunshine.
What did we get last week when instead we were on leave all week? Pissing rain.
Typical!
We hope you’re not on the ground floor… -
Aldor: How lovely to hear from you! Sorry to hear it’s raining in Paris too…
Mr. X: Poor you! That’s not fair. And today it was not only sunny…but blinding! But then perhaps we just forget what sunshine looks like.
