A friend from Boston is passing through London tonight and staying at my place. On the phone, she told her husband back home that with my hair pulled back, I look like a Pre-Raphaelite painting.

Awww. PhD students in the humanities give the best compliments.

   Okay — let me get this straight. All it takes is a little (artistic) compliment and one can get free lodging in London?

   Have I mentioned that you resemble the Mona Lisa?

   Ok, Lillie, down girl! My, er, “free” stay was arranged LONG before I made that totally spontaneous compliment! Anglofille has let her hair grow since I last saw her a year ago, and it looked nice, just gathered up.

   So there!!! (I got home safely, BTW.)
