Me: “Just because I am writing on the board does not mean I can’t hear you talking to your friends and laughing behind my back. Unlike most teachers you’ve known, I can still hear you when I turn around. I have magical superpowers.”
I wonder how you say bitch in Russian and Kazakh and Korean and Chinese? ‘Cuz I know they were all thinking it.

heh.
That reminds me of the time I had a 5 year old convinced that I had eyes in the back of my head just like his mother since I spent so much time with kids and, by default I suppose, grew them even though I don’t have kids of my own.
Hope you get the respect you deserve from now on out.

Well, at least they understood you! I tried saying the same thing to my students and they were like “Quoi? Que’est-ce qu’elle a dit? Je comprends rien moi.” Even questions like “What…is…..your…name?” get blank stares.
And then next time I turned around, one said “I want to f**k you”. Classy, huh?

They always seem to know obscenities. If that student actually understood what he was saying, I would have thrown him out of class!

October 10th, 2007 at 12:14 pmWhat I can’t believe is how they seem to think it’s okay to act that way in the first place. And that isn’t just language students. I’ve been in classes here at my Uni and seen students chattering while the teacher is actually lecturing. It’s really disrespectful and I can’t believe they’re doing it.
Happens in the US too, I’ve probably seen loads upon loads of students texting each other during lectures. Bunch of savages!

When students talk while I’m lecturing, it’s very distracting and causes me to lose my train of thought. Then I get cranky and tell them to be quiet, yet a few minutes later they start up again. It’s really amazing that they just don’t seem to care.

This posting STILL makes me laugh out loud! These kids- such brats they are!
I just love the idea of you standing there and doing you damnest best to get some decent teaching done!

Add a ‘LOL’ to the end of my previous comment!

I’ve had a few of those moments too. In fact, I just established martial law in one class that felt every time I wrote something on the board was a type of break…
