The weather here has been pretty lousy for weeks on end — rain, wind, cold and dreariness. Today I walked through some of the gardens along the Thames and saw that many of the spring flowers are permanently frozen in a pose of wind-whipped submission. There was no wind when I took this photo, but the damage is done:

Today there was sunshine, but we’ve yet to have a really lovely spring day.

Is it really a damage? It is the charm of the tulips to be somehow curly and misdisciplined and not as strictly right as soldiers.

April 5th, 2008 at 1:47 amI think they will sort themselves out. I know about Tulips.
I woke up in a field of tulips once, it was so nice an experience I’ll spare you the details of how I got there.
I got up and twirled, with my arms outspread, this is thirty three or so years ago, it was like being in a painting.
It wasn’t far from Haarlem.
I’ve never actually liked the Dutch, not in Chicago (wooden-shoes), or (South Africa (yup dose ones), however,
I’m sentimental in their company, the most people I ever loved at one time, were in my mind as I twirled.
So, I like tulips, I like the tulips in Bloemenstad (Haarlem) which is the Tulip capital of the whole wide windy world.
