Is Obama giving Hillary Clinton the finger? You can see the offending moment here. CBS News offers a longer and clearer video, but you have to watch a commercial first. On the CBS video, you can also see Obama doing another gesture — pretending to wipe dirt off his shoulders (the dirt being Hillary Clinton’s negative comments). According to The Atlantic’s blogger, this action is a reference to a Jay-Z song (a song which is filled with the n-word). I’m not hip enough to comment on this aspect of it.
As for the middle finger reference, I’m sure some people will say it wasn’t him flipping off Hillary, but just him innocently scratching his cheek. (The women sitting behind him certainly thought he was giving the finger — you can tell by their reaction.) After the LA Times blogged about this, Obama’s campaign responded by saying it was ‘absurd and untrue.” After watching it a few times, I think he was giving her the finger. Everyone knows that’s how you flip someone off in a covert way — I’ve done it myself. He also stopped speaking while doing it in a suspicious, wink wink kind of way. I think it fits into the tenor of the whole speech, during which Obama comes off as extremely cocky and arrogant. You know who Obama reminds me of during this speech? George W. Bush. That’s how W behaves — in that smug fraternity boy way.
I realize I’m a bit late to this story. The LA Times blog predicted we’d be hearing a lot about this incident, but I hadn’t heard anything about it until today. If Hillary had done it, however…

These messages are vile and contemptible, and black leaders like former Gov. Doug Wilder and Bill Cosby are true heroes for saying so, while suffering the inevitable blowback.
And Barack Obama is dusting off his shoulders to the applause of the crowd.
