obama is a secret muslim

Obama’s campaign responds to the controversial New Yorker cover that has everyone buzzing today: “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Sen. Obama’s right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree.”

Oh, boo hoo!

From ABC News: “This is as offensive a caricature as any magazine could publish,” says a high-profile Obama supporter, “and I suspect that other Obama supporters like me are also thinking about not subscribing to or buying a magazine that trafficks in such trash.”

Trash? Liberal bloggers are also frothing at the mouth, which is beyond disappointing…and just a bit scary. Here’s an idea: Why don’t you all get a big bonfire going and burn every issue of The New Yorker you can find. I’m sure the Republicans have some lighter fluid you can borrow.

It’s not surprising that HRH Obama and his media supporters are upset about the cover. Most of the liberal media have their noses shoved so far up Obama’s ass that they haven’t seen sunlight in months. How dare the New Yorker publish a provocative, satirical image of the Obamas! We can’t have any sort of intellectual culture in America! Americans are just too stupid for that! Everything must be dumbed-down to a Fox News level of good vs. evil stupidity. The New Yorker’s editors’ attempts to defend the cartoon and justify it are highly disappointing. No no no! Just shut up, you bunch of weenies. Stand up to the Obama machine by waving the Constitution in their faces.

There’s so much outrage that this cartoon will hurt Obama’s campaign. As if the NY’er should refrain from running a perfectly valid piece of social commentary because it may hurt Obama’s chances of becoming president. So what if it does? I fully understand that Obama, his campaign and associated sycophants may be confused about the way the media works. You see, it’s not the media’s job to get you elected. They don’t work for you. In theory, they are objective. (cough, cough) Sometimes, they even serve as provocateurs. I know, I know. It’s difficult for you to understand this. [The really scary part is that many writing for blogs and providing social commentary seem unaware of this themselves.]

At the heart of this controversy is that the cover depicts Obama as a Muslim. Sure, he’s burning the flag and he has a painting of bin Laden on the wall and his wife is a militant, but at issue here is the Muslim factor, let’s be honest. Can someone tell me why Obama, his campaign and many of his loudest supporters continue to equate being called a “Muslim” with a “smear”? Why are they never called on this bigotry? What’s wrong with being a Muslim, Obama? There are millions of Muslims in America. The vast majority of them are law-abiding, tax-paying citizens, not terrorists. Some of your relatives are Muslim too. You’ve gone out of your way to prove your Christian credentials, so okay, I believe you’re a big Jesus lover. But I just wish someone would call you on your prejudice against Muslims, which even includes your campaign disallowing women in head scarves from appearing in photo-ops with you.

My point is illustrated by this bit of outrage on the Huffington Post today about the NY’er cover:

“It’s got all the scare tactics and misinformation that has so far been used to derail Barack Obama’s campaign — all in one handy illustration. Anyone who’s tried to paint Obama as a Muslim, anyone who’s tried to portray Michelle as angry or a secret revolutionary out to get Whitey, anyone who has questioned their patriotism— well, here’s your image.” [emphasis mine]

This equating of being Muslim to something bad is widespread in the liberal media and blogosphere. It’s clear a big part of the extreme anger Obama and others feel at the New Yorker cover is that it depicts him as being a Muslim. Y’all feel that Middle America won’t vote for Obama if they think he’s a Muslim. Well, they probably won’t vote for him if they think he’s Muslim. Big duh. But your repeated attempts to distance Obama from any mention of Islam simply bolsters the idea that all Muslims are terrorists who want to overthrow America.

Will you do absolutely anything to win this election?

Obama’s supporters are so quick to label others (including the NY’er) as racist. I suggest you take a deep breath and examine your own prejudices first.

  1. I find the cover to be very offensive.

I am SO glad they didn’t try any of this cartoon caricature trickery with Hillary! I can’t even imagine how upset Americans would have been had they portrayed Hillary as, I don’t know, a witch or something.

HRH Obama! HA! Too hilarious. Awesome post on another of the Obamatown Kool-Aid Gang’s completely melodramatic over-the-top rage at anything that may be construed as bad against their lord and savior. I wonder how long it would take Arianna Huffington to wear a Burqa if Obama converted to Islam? 2.5 seconds, maybe even faster is my guess.

  3. If the NY’er had made a cover of Hillary as a cackling witch to lampoon right-wing attacks on her, I would have thought it was great. I would have bought the magazine for sure. [No, I don't subscribe to the NY'er.] Satire is such a powerful tool. But then, I can appreciate it because I have a sense of humor and understand what satire is.
